Hi, I'm Miss Thief River Falls, Kendra Sparby!

Get to Know Me!

I was born in Thief River Falls Minnesota and have lived there all 20 years of my life. I currently attend the University of Minnesota Duluth and am a double major in Political Science and Psychology with a minor in Deaf Studies. I am not dead set on a career path at the moment but I am exploring multiple options!

I have been involved with the Miss America Organization for about five years now! I started out in the Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen program and transitioned into the Miss Minnesota program once I was old enough. There are multiple reasons that I continue to be involved in this organization but I'll name off my top three. 1. I have gained an abundance of scholarship money from this program and that has definitely helped set me up for my future. 2. I have been able to advocate for pediatric cancer and become an ambassador with the American Childhood Cancer Organization, something I am incredibly passionate about. 3. The amount of skills I have gained by participating in Miss Minnesota is honestly crazy. I have grown in my own self confidence, interview skills, time management, prioritizing, volunteer work, not to mention the ability to walk in heels! The best thing about this program is it does great things for LOTS of women not just me.

My life in Duluth

I would like to start off by saying, if you have never visited Duluth, MN you really should mark that on your list of places to visit! It is a beautiful city in all seasons and you can always find something to do!

I try to stay as involved as I can on campus. I am the current captain of my intercollegiate figure skating team at UMD, which I am really happy to say! I love my team and I love that I can continue my passion for figure skating while growing my leadership skills! I have also become a member of Alpha Sigma Tau, a National Sorority on campus. I serve on multiple committees and help with as much service work as I can. Fun fact about my sorority: Our national philanthropy is The Woman's Wellness Initiative and our local philanthropy is Circle of Hope, supporting women with breast cancer. I love how everything I do seems to come full circle in the end. I'm also involved in other organizations on campus such as, American Sign Language Club, Colleges Against Cancer, Love Your Melon, and MPIRG.
